For the beginning of my life I lived on farms in rural Nebraska with my mother and father. In between the time I spent with them in the country we would travel to see my grandparents on their farms. Both my mother's parents and my father's parents were farmers. I was the first child and the first granddaughter. Being the first child for the beginning five years of my life and living in the country I spent my time outdoors making up stories of adventure and generally living in a fantasy world where much, if my only interaction, was with animals and what I thought they were telling me.

Visiting the grandparents~led to my only memorable communication with other people and much of this dialogue was uncomfortable for me as they saw me as a child, which I was, but I thought I was more . So instead, I could be found exploring the old barns and sheds or playing in the woods, looking for the farm dogs, kittens hidden in straw bales or talking to the horses in the corral. It was very difficult for me to find much that was interesting at all about the adults and the most fun I had was with my mother and father as it seemed they had also the same sensitivities to nature, poetry, music and storytelling. My best times as a child were with them, or alone walking the fields, picking cherries in the orchard, or helping with the animals that came to our farm~calves, lambs and new born colts. It seemed always a time of regeneration on our land, and creativity.
